What the do is create "robot" characters in the game and have people run them that do nothing but "farm" for gold. That is, they get things in the game to be sold to other players. Or kill things that drop money. Once they have mass sums of in-game money, they then sell it to other players for real money. It's an illegal practice that Blizzard, the parent company, has been trying to stop probably since the game's inception, but I'm not sure since I started playing the game about a year after it was released. I don't follow the links either, but they advertise in the game and also advertise on some websites. But now they've been hitting the forums here.

The unfortunate part of this, is no matter which security measures are implemented, the spammers will always find a way around them. The best security, is a mod team that keeps there eyes open, and a user group that tells us when we miss something. (like what we have here. )
