The joys of being a webmaster

Post by trucker2000 » Sat Mar 17, 2018 2:28 pm

First off, I apologise for the time the forum was down.
So what happened? Well......my webhost sent me an email about 8 months ago informing me they were selling their buisness to another company. Due to the fact that I have teenager desease, i forgot about it. The sale went thru and the new hosting service moved my website to their server. Well....that was only the beginning of the problems. Changing nameservers takes time, (up to 24 hours) then, the new server uses a newer version of php (the programming language this forum is written in) than the old one. The forum program was written in an older version, so wouldn't work with this version. not to mention lost passwords, corrupted files, and more.
We are now fully updated to the latest version of phpbb forum which used the version of php that this host uses. Everything should be back and working. Please let me know if you find something that isn't working correctly. I will keep working to get things back to the way they used to look and feel. It will just take some time.
Thankyou for your patience.
Mike

I wuz having withdrawn symptoms...

Those error messages did suggest a software incompatibility of some kind. I mean the ones after it stopped just saying it couldn't connect to the database - after it stopped doing that, it would display stuff but the reply didn't work.

This style is the closest to what we had that I can find. I will continue to work on this until I can get it back to what we had. I'm sorry for all the changes folks.

It's good to be back but I really hate the way this looks. :rotfl: Although a couple of my graphics forums got moved to Tapatalk and that's really different. I'm glad this is not one of the free ones.

Yeah, I guess web stuff can be tricky. Where's Peter Parker when you need him, huh?

You're welcome. I am still trying to find where to size this forum to what it looked like before. The color sceme is the same, it's just getting things sized properly now. I looked at the code for about 3 hours and gave up. The coding is so different, that I can't find what I need to. i'll get it. hopefully this weekend i can get it done.

I've done all I can do to make the forum look the way it used to look. I'm still trying to find my nice logo image that Fallstar made. Once I find my backup of it and figure out how to get it showing, I'll put it back in it's place of honor. Until then, this is what we have.

Hey, is that good or bad? (i.e., is it people, or "bots"? Or is that one of those things where if I have to ask, I don't wanna know?)

I'm sure it was bots because we don't have that many people. :rotfl:
