Help Save "Reading Rainbow"!

Post by brian » Mon Dec 19, 2005 11:37 am

Every week, over 4.3 million children, teachers, parents and grandparents enjoy and learn from Reading Rainbow. In the 24 years since it began, the program has won 24 Emmy Awards and has helped to introduce millions of children to the joys of reading. Reading Rainbow is the #1-most-watched PBS program in the classroom. Librarians and booksellers report enormous increases in requests for books featured on the program. Reading Rainbow books quickly become "classics" in kids' personal libraries.

Unfortunately, we are at risk of losing this national treasure. Sponsors and potential sponsors of the program don't understand the significant viewer-ship and support the show enjoys - and without their support, production of Reading Rainbow will stop! Reading Rainbow is in dire need of funds to produce new shows for the series. Without new episodes, this wonderful series WILL go off the air thus cutting off access to fantastic books, on-location experiences and LeVar Burton's magic for countless children, their parents and teachers.

Unfortunately, many would-be sponsors and corporations are unaware of the problem. We need to demonstrate to corporate sponsors that there is real interest in saving the show. By signing up, you are joining a growing community of supporters. The larger our community of supporters is, the more the sponsors will be encouraged to continue their support and not to pull the plug on this quality program. With your support, we can save this show.
