Howdy Doody Show

Post by Xjmt » Fri Sep 18, 2009 12:29 pm

Does this statement ring true?
I remember Howdy Doody. Clarabell would go on to become Captain Kangaroo (never understood where they got that name). I have to go back and see those again because I understand that a young William Shatner played Ranger Bob and Robert Goulet/ Trapper Pierrre (no suprise as Robert was always a good sport on such shows)

I had no idea, so I looked it up. They're right about William Shatner and Robert Goulet. But there's no mention of Bob Keeshan (Captain Kangaroo) in the cast: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250868/fullcredits#cast

Ah, but in Bob Keeshan's filmography (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0444828/), the Clarabell role is listed. But it was a different incarnation of the show, called Puppet Playhouse.

How dare he play Clarabell in some other show! :rotfl:

I do remember hearing some controversy about Bob Keeshan's role as to whether he did or didn't but couldn't remember the final answer.

I do remember reading about Robert Goulet but the Shatner part really threw me.

Well, as a kid I didn't care. I truly thought Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring was her real name. :rotfl:
