Beam me up

The following was in the "Letters to the Editor" section of my local paper.

Beam me up to San Francisco

With the proposed high-speed rail, a passenger would drive to something akin to the Los Angeles Union Station, park their car, walk in and buy a ticket to San Francisco, walk a half-mile to a comfy train car, enjoy a speedy but boring and time-consuming ride up north, exit the San Francisco station, get a taxi to Market Street.

The funds would be much better spent developing a system wherein a passenger would drive their car into a large warehouse near Union Station, buy a Big Mac and ticket to San Francisco from a drive-through window, drive following the signs for the San Francisco departure area, wait for the lights to flash from the ceiling to the floor, drive out on Market Street in San Francisco still eating the hot sandwich.

There would be no need for any right-of-way, rails, rail-cars, locomotives, delay. or politicians; just drive in in L.A. and drive out in S.F. If Gene Roddenberry could do it 46 years ago, it should be available today in California.

Yeah....the bullet train (money pit) Like I'm going to drive to some out of the way place to board a train to Vegas or Fresno....which is where it is proposed to go to......or someplace like that. The money's just not there and yet the folks in Sacramento keep pushing it.
