Now for the latest news...

Insurance has been and gone. The house will be gutted and rebuilt. As for my Mustang, <sigh>, we won't know what we're getting for it until maybe the end of the week. All the contents have been declared a total loss. I get to sift through more ashes and soot tomorrow to see if there's anything we can salvage. Still no sign of Spike, however...

We did find a house today that we can rent until our house is finished. We have been told abouth 6 months, but it could be longer depending on the weather and stuff.

Show me!

Re "The house will be gutted and rebuilt."
Ouch. :(

Re "As for my Mustang"
Poor horsie.

Re "Still no sign of Spike, however"
Just keep an eye out for gaudy amulets while sifting.

Bev, I'm a little late in the posting, but I'm so sorry for your loss. Not to sound too pollyanna, but at least no one was hurt. Hope everything goes well with insurance/renting. Keep us posted (pun intended)! :)

My head is filled with questions but now isn't the time to ask. At some time in the future when you're settled in somewhere and have time to collect your thoughts I'd like to hear more about this tragedy.

I've never suffered such a loss and from what I've seen on TV of the California fires it can't be easy to get through. Heck, I throw a chip fit when I can't find something I've been looking for. :tantrum: I can't imagine losing so much of my collectable life like that.

Again, the best to you. :ghug:

I agree with JT in that I can't imagine losing everything in my house. So much here can't be replaced. And the thought of my little animals being caught in a house fire is unbearable. You haven't mentioned any pets, so I assume you didn't have any - thankfully.

Good luck in this task.

I can't believe I didn't mention the dogs! Yes, we have 3 dogs and all got out safely. The vet just said to watch for signs of smoke inhalation, but I think we got them out before that would have been a problem. In fact, we got chewed out by the firefighters for staying in the house so long so that we could get them out. We have a 4 year old sheltie named Tiffany (I thought about naming her Buffy), an 18 month old beagle named Cassie, and an 8 1/2 month old long-haired miniature dachshund name Missie.

I'm god you got the dogs out. I have cats and they would hide in a crisis.

The good thing about dogs is, When they are scared, they go hunting for Mommy. :D

Here's the latest:

We went furniture shopping yesterday (Sunday). What an ordeal! We went to a place called Nebraska Furniture Mart - and this place is HUGE!! It's a 2 story building and it has just about everything. We haven't gotten everything replaced, but enough so we will be comfortable in the place we rent. We wil officially move in this coming weekend. We also got 2 new computers, so we should be up and running also this weekend. I'm glad that my sister was so gracious in letting us stay with her, but I'll be glad to get back into our own place.

Well, we are spending the first night in our own place with all new furniture. I'm very tired, so sometime this weekend I hope to be able to tell everyone what happened the night of the fire. Some of it is kinda comical.
