It's a reference to the movie business in India. A number of independent "made in India" movies have played big in this country and while "Bend it Like Beckham" was made in England it featured a female actress of Indian descent (now on the TV show "ER") and was directed by an Indian female known for her Bollywood movies.

The other featured actress in Beckham was Keira Knightly (sp) who is also featured in those pirate movies with Johnny Depp. Yes, she has been in other movies as well.
