Missing for a while

Post by AnneB » Sun Aug 12, 2007 5:33 pm

My husband is having heart bypass surgery tomorrow so I will be away from the computer for the next week. If you all have any problems you will have to wait for Trucker to get here.

He's out of surgery and doing well. I had to come home to feed my animals and check on the house. Thank you for the well-wishes.

He's not doing as well today as yesterday. He had an episode of rapid heart rate that cause him to be extremely short of breath. He's not handling the pain from the surgery very well, so is not breathing as deeply as they want him to. I'm hoping the pain will get better tomorrow.

Sometimes the couple days after the surgery are the worst. I hope he's feeling better!!!!! Oh, and men never handle pain well.

I had rapid heart beat back in 2004. Does his doctor know about this occurrence?

Do you know what his reading was?

I was 150 while in my doctor's office for a regular check-up and by the time I was checked in at the hospital I was hovering at 300 bp. Not a pleasant sensation even without bypass surgery.

They'll probably put him on Coumadin/Warfarin (which is a real pain) but as a help there is a book out titled "Cooking With Coumadin" which can be a big help for choosing food items that are legal. ie: Anything good for you is off the table. Vitamin K in broccoli, spinach etc are out when using Coumadin.

ps I handle pain much better than my wife does. :nano:

Hi, JT. His heart rate got to 172 before they got it slowed down, and I'm sure they called the doctor. They have put him back on the Plavix which is similar to Coumadin but not quite as dangerous. He's doing lots better today although still in the ICU; the pain is better and he has finally consented to eat real food.
