But it sounds like he's on the road!Donahoo wrote:Ronnie has been off the ventilator since Saturday, on supplemental oxygen through his tracheostomy tube, and this afternoon they moved the ventilator completely out of the room. Yay! He is very weak and has lost so much weight; he looks like he is 90 years old. It takes two people to get in from the bed to a chair. It's going to take a long time to recover.

Sounds good. I do hope the "rehab" helps to keep him away from the ciggies and french fries.
I'm on a low-carb diet myself.

Good news, progress being made. Ronnie has been off the ventilator for nearly 2 weeks and they removed his tracheostomy tube on Tuesday. He is being transferred tomorrow for more intense therapy, with a goal of being home in 2 weeks.

Re: Missing for a while
I haven't posted in a few days, hoping for better news. There hasn't been much progress this week; Ronnie is very depressed. After a few bad experiences with hospital food makig him sick, he has completely stopped eating. He had a scope put into his stomach today and there was nothing found, no reason for his aversion to food. I'm sure the depression is the cause, and he's been on medicine for that for several weeks.
And on top of that, the case manager told me this morning they have asked permission from the insurance company to keep him another week since he's not ready to go home. Guess the doctor is not in charge after all.

Re: Missing for a while
My wife's mom is going through a similar noneating period. The hospital is working with an appetite stimulant, anti-depressant, Ensure and something else the name of which escapes me right now. My very best to you and Ronnie.
