Pop-culture reference baby names

Post by brian » Tue Oct 02, 2007 8:53 am

Any interesting names any of your friends, family or acquaintances ever named their kids? And where did they come from?

One of my friends at work was a big fan of the renaissance of Disney animation in the late 80's. So when his kids were born in the early 90's, the first two got named Ariel (The Little Mermaid) and Jessica (Who Framed Roger Rabbit). Alone, either name is not obviously a film reference (well, maybe Ariel), but together it's obvious. Then along came his son, who was graced with the name Luke Walker. The "sky" is silent, LOL.

On the old Prodigy board, I remember someone named her baby Kira Delenn, after Major Kira from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Delenn from Babylon 5. Does anyone remember who that was? Is she among us? LOL, funny how the baby name seared its way into my memory, but I can't remember who did it.

There was a person on the old Prodigy Classic message board named Yasmin who used Imizadi for her baby's middle name. As I recall, she was very argumentative and thankfully is not here.

I remember the "Imzadi" chick... I was wondering what she was smoking. I mean, it's good to be a fan, but really.

Re "Ael is from the Rihannsu novels, isn't it?"

Kirk: "What's the matter, getting cold feet?"

Ael (puzzled): "My boots are fine."
