All these shows I have an interest in seeing but can't because they're all scheduled for the same time & same night:

The Good Wife
Memphis Beat
Rescue Me
& Covert Affairs which is a brand new entry on USA.

Many other nights of the week will be either video or play with my guitar.

I love my DVR from the cable company. You just pick a show, set a (very) few parameters, and it records. I don't pick the day or time; tell it to skip repeats, keep it till I run out of room, start and stop on time - or not. And I'm not tied to the programming schedule. Way better than the VCR. That one is unplugged.

If our new VHS/DVD doesn't work out I many have to go that route. OTOH I still have lots of VHS tapes and need a player for that. Does the DVR play VHS?

No, that's part of my problem. Right now I have a VHS/DVD combo in line with my HD-DVR from the cable company. I so want to get a BluRay player, but I don't want another device in the chain. If I could just find a BluRay/VHS combo... but I don't think that's ever gonna happen.

I have a VCR connected to my laptop and I convert my VHS tapes to DVD. Still have quite a few to go, only do it sporadically.

I break out in a cold sweat just thinking about that set-up.
I can put the key in the ignition of my car....that's about it.
