Neutron Physics Instrument May Unlock Mysteries Of Universe
OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Sep. 16, 2004 — Fundamental questions that particle physicists have pondered for decades might be answered when a $9.2 million neutron physics beam line is built at the Department of Energy's Spallation Neutron Source on Chestnut Ridge.
Proving That Shape-Shifting Robots Can Get A Move On
ARLINGTON, Va. -- It started with tennis balls. As a former collegiate tennis player, Daniela Rus habitually rolls two tennis balls around in her hand as she paces her office. As a robotics researcher at Dartmouth College, she wondered why the tennis balls shouldn’t be able to roll themselves around.

ORNL Microscope Pushes Back Barrier Of 'How Small'
OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2004 -- Oak Ridge National Laboratory researchers, using a state-of-the-art microscope and new computerized imaging technology, have pushed back the barrier of how small we can see--to a record, atom-scale 0.6 angstrom. ORNL, a Department of Energy national laboratory, also held the previous record, at 0.7 angstrom.

Scientists Gain Glimpse Of Bizarre Matter In A Neutron Star
Scientists have obtained their best measurement yet of the size and contents of a neutron star, an ultra-dense object containing the strangest and rarest matter in the Universe.

Nobel Prize In Physics Honors 'Colorful' Discovery In The World Of Quarks
What are the smallest building blocks in Nature? How do these particles build up everything we see around us? What forces act in Nature and how do they actually function?

Nah - that Quark retired from there, got a makeover, took a job as principal at Sunnydale High, then got et by a big snake at graduation.

Also, Quark, uh, Snyder, should never have trusted that Mayor guy - after all, Wilkins was a politici... er, a demon.

Thinking of Quark and/or Snyder, reminds me of that scene where they showed him in silhouette - Snyder's ears looked almost as big as Quark's.
And from the look on Buffy's face, I think she was trying to figure out if that was just a person with large ears, or a demon of some kind. Well, in this case maybe it was a little of both.

Physicists Transfer Information Between Matter And Light; Advancing Quantum Communications
A team of physicists at the Georgia Institute of Technology has taken a significant step toward the development of quantum communications systems by successfully transferring quantum information from two different groups of atoms onto a single photon.
I guess one could say they're making a Quantum Leap, huh?
(And yes, I did have to say that. :D )
