Speaking of commercials.....
I've read that because advertisers express grave concerns that the general public at large are not getting their recommenced daily requirement of commercials there are (currently) remotes that prevent one from fast forwarding through commercials on shows the public has attempted to time shift. I believe they're primarily talking about TiVo but if they have it then anything else you can record on can't be far behind.
Also, according to today's NYTimes a stage version of "Saturday Night Fever" is opening in London and before the play starts there will be a live 3 minute commercial extolling their theater district. It is said the commercial will travel with the show when it visits other locations around the world.
This information has been brought to you by United Dyslexia. Join now and "Frump" the commercials!

Dijon is a kind of mustard. Also the name of a city in France.

I have a VCR that will FF through the commercials on it's own. It tapes everything, then it goes back and marks them so when you play back you get to watch them at super speed.
But I don't have to watch commercials on the regular channels as long as hubby has his finger on the remote.

I got to be pretty good with the FF button on the VCR remote but the DVD moves still have me stymied.

I don't watch many DVD movies, but the Star Trek sets drive me crazy. You can't skip the warnings at the beginning, but I finally found out how to skip the closing credits. You can FF through them or you can just press 'DVD menu" to skip them. And I press "next' to bypass the opening credits.

Not all of the Star Trek episodes go to the beginning of act one when you hit Next. (a Star Trek episode being a teaser, credits, five acts and closing credits)
Some of them take you into the middle of act one. Who set those chapter stops?!? A moron, that's who.
With the warnings, almost no DVDs will let you hit Menu during them. Boo. But I've found that some of them will let you cue (hit the fast forward button while playing to play faster). I hit mine three times and it goes superfast and winds up at the main menu. For maybe half of the films I watch.

We usually watch the closing credits of movies. Don't know why most of them on video are illegible.

Of the TV series we've seen on DVD they don't have a specific stop point either.

Or let you do much of anything during the opening previews. I keep getting that circle with a diagonal line through it.
