Ah well, it let up before had to go anywhere. But on getting home, did have to walk around the building and use the front door. Sidewalk to back door was... well, I guess it was under there someplace!

Some of us sometimes seem to get never ending rain while others have wild fires because everything is so dry. There's just gotta be something science can do about that. I think.

The fire was year before last... For the last month or so, it's been quite wet here, in an area where dry is the norm.

I'm reading there's fires on the West coast such as California and New Mexico and Arizona I believe were mentioned.

Today had the first lizard sighting of the summer! I'd been wondering where they all went; for the last two summers it's been normal to get several sightings in a week of warm or hot weather (they seem to be shy in comfortable, cool, or cold weather, for some reason).

Before about summer before last, I might see one or two in a whole summer, if that. But early summer before last there was apparently a sudden increase in their numbers. I'm no lizardologist*, but I have to wonder if the increase two years ago was due to migration away from a nearby area that had a sudden depletion of resources**. (And besides, smoke can be hazardous to their health.)

*(Nor do I speak Latin or Greek, whichever one of those "herpetologist" comes from. )

**(But on the bright side, the wind was favorable that week, otherwise it could have been a lot worse. )

Last summer and summer before that, yeah. Before that it was quite rare to see one, and this year just the once.
